One seriously hurt in police car crash

A police car ploughed into a bus stop on a major road in central Auckland, leaving a person with serious injuries. Police were ‘‘making inquiries for a vehicle of interest in the Mt Albert area’’ yesterday morning when a member of the public’s car pulled out of a driveway, Inspector Kerry Watson said. ‘‘The police vehicle attempted to evade the vehicle, however it has collided with the vehicle and a nearby bus stop.’’ Watson said one of the occupants of the car sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Auckland City Hospital. Three other patients were treated for minor injuries, St John said. An investigation will be launched into the circumstances of the crash, Watson said.
